Fighting Like Men.
put down the knife he sneered and fight me like a man so we did; sitting in awkward silence the bar fridge in the corner humming louder than either of us dared to breathe the last dregs of our beer we swallow, bitterly before flooring it home we thought of each other daily fighting the urge to be the first to pick up the phone and dial we were men, fighting. we couldn't lose. two men who forgot the knife, but never each other. the years passed -- until he did too closing the circle we had done it. we had loved like men. we had fought like men. -S-2024 @seekinghopepoetry
