From Chapter 3 of 'A Flat White; Medium, Half Sugar'; my debut poetry novel, which I will be releasing next month! THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT If I was to go today —end things of my own accord— who would leave a jam laden knife on the bench, as they rushed to work late as always? An error that — unbeknownst to me would be what kept a butterfly alive when it fell from the ceiling at half noon exhausted and near death giving it vitality; allowing it to then flap its wings, and do great things. The butterfly effect in that even in my fuck-ups, there is good that although I am the sole perpetrator in this life of chaos; I realise I am necessary for my world to spin on. Without me, there is no knife on the bench; no ripples formed in life's waters, the butterfly instead lays dead and, if so much good is found in the presence of my failures, how much more will exist in my successes? So, there must be me, pushing on. -S-2024

A massive shout-out to my boy Mikey - a.k.a.
, D - a.k.a. , and Jennifer for all recently giving so generously. You guys are the best!I wasn’t going to post this poem again.
However, a few days ago, I had Yentl reach out to me via Instagram about it.
“Hi Sean, thank you for following me back. I wanted to tell you that I love your poetry. Specifically The Butterfly Effect, it gave me the break through I needed for my own creative journey. I originally found it on your website and was heartbroken to see you took it down. So happy to have found it on your Instagram. Keep up the amazing work, you should be so proud of your journey 👏🥳"
Which in itself, is a huge encouragement. It still blows my mind that people read what I write, let alone discover/learn things from it. I asked Yentl which part of this poem in particular she found the most helpful.
“2 versus (which) really helped me which were:
‘In that even in my fuck-ups, there is good’
‘I am necessary for my work to spin’
And obviously the message that is the butterfly effect which helped me create these 3 pieces.” (I’ve added these below). “I'm a recent fashion graduate and I've been working at this butterfly effect concept for a while and nothing was clicking. Then I read your poem and it all just flowed out and I genuinely couldn't be more grateful for you and your work.”
It honestly blows my mind still that people read my poetry — let alone feel things from it. This isn’t an overstatement. I’m still very new in my journey as a writer, and as I’ve been editing/formatting my first book, I’ve struggled with a lack of motivation due to fear. It’s scary to put your work out there.
So, messages like this are so important. Yentl — a massive thank you for reaching out!

Here are the images Yentl sent me, inspired by this poem!
I love this poem Sean ♥️
